When it comes to vacuums everybody has heard of Dyson. They have come along way since the DA001 model launched in 1993. Cordless, lightweight vacuum cleaners are all the rage at the moment and are a must have for any modern day home. The Dyson V11 Torque offers some more advanced features over its predecessor the V10 but is the Dyson V11 Torque Worth the Money? I have owned the Dyson V11 Torque for over 6 months now and here is my review of the product.
SHOULD YOU BUY IT?
Pros
- 60 Minute Run Time
- LCD Screen
- Very Powerful
- Lightweight
Cons
- Expensive
Dyson V11 Design
The Dyson V11 Torque has the recognisable stick design of cordless vacuum cleaner. It looks very similar to its predecessor, the Dyson V10, but has a little bit more refinement in certain areas. The LCD screen is a new feature and is a great addition to the Dyson V11 range. This screen displays the current cleaning mode and also displays real time battery life so you know when you need to charge it.
It features trigger based power which you have to keep pressed down as there is no lock on the power button. Not a major issue but I can see it being more of an issue if you have a large area to clean in one go. The dust bin and stick body are sleek and matchup well to the provided attachment heads.
When it comes to the dust bin, Dyson call the technology ‘Point and shoot’ as it pushes the dirt out of the bin in the direction you point it. This supposedly prevents you from having to reach in and touch the dirt. However, if you are like me and you have to deal with a lot of long hairs in just about every place in the house then this is not always the case as they can get tangled in the bin requiring you to manually intervene. Generally speaking though dust and dirt does expel from the dust bin easily. The red handle at the base of the dust bin is easy to locate and operates smoothly when pushed. All in all it’s really easy to empty the Dyson V11 Torque.
How Big is the Dyson V11?
The Dyson V11 Torque is 128cm long, 26.1cm high & 25cm wide with the stick and torque drive motorhead attached.
With the mini motorised tool and no stick attached the Dyson V11 Torque is 49cm long, 26cm high & 14cm wide.
How Much Does the Dyson V11 Weigh?
Weighing on 2.97kg, the Dyson V11 Torque is still extremely portable and easy to use in a number of different cleaning scenarios.
Dyson V11 Setup
In terms of setup the Dyson V11 Torque couldn’t be any easier. It’s as simple as push fitting the accessory you want to use to the main dust bin unit, pull the trigger and your off. Who said cleaning is a chore.
There is an accessory that will require some setup and that’s the docking station. Now there is a docking station provided with the V11 Torque but I opted to get the Dyson V11 Floor Dock as well as I preferred it to the docking station. The docking station will need to be wall mounted so you will need a drill to hand where as the Floor Dock is freestanding. You will need to build it but it is very straight forward to do. If you are on a budget then I wouldn’t worry about getting the Floor Dock but it is a really good accessory to have and personally I think it looks better in room than the docking station.
What Attachments come with the Dyson V11?
The Dyson V11 comes with a total of 6 attachments including the stick body. See a picture of the included accessories below.
Stick Body – This is used to extend the vacuum and is typically used when cleaning floors.
Torque Drive Motorhead – This is the main attachment of the Dyson V11 and is best used on floors.
Mini Motorised Tool – A smaller version of the torque drive motorhead.
Mini Soft Dusting Brush – Nylon bristles to dust and clean delicate surfaces.
Combination Tool – Combination of wide nozzle and brush wide nozzle so it can be used on a variety of surfaces.
Crevice Tool – Best used for precision cleaning.
Dyson V11 Performance
Performance of the Dyson V11 Torque is excellent. It is powered by a motor that spins up to 125,000rpm which delivers great suction power. This makes tackling any mess on all surfaces within the home an easy task. I can’t say I have ever noticed a drop in suction power whilst using the Dyson V11 Torque even when the battery has been running low. The inclusion of that LCD screen on the Dyson V11 Torque allows you to manage the suction power to accommodate the surface you are cleaning. you can cycle between Eco, Auto & Boost Mode. Boost Mode is insane! Nothing stands in its way when you activate Boost Mode, however, this will reduce its battery life significantly. Typically I leave mine in Auto mode as this handles most surfaces really well. the only time I use Eco Mode is on a carpet we have just had newly laid which has quite large pile height.
When cleaning floors the Torque Drive Motorhead attachment does a great job of automatically adjusting the suction based on the floor type. This is a great feature and means you don’t have to anything when transitioning between carpet and hard floor or vice versa. Also the automatic suction switching helps conserve battery life which always ideal.
How Long does the Dyson V11 Battery last for?
From a fully charged device (100%) you should expect the following battery life from the Dyson V11 Torque;
Boost – 13-14 mins
Auto – 24-25mins
Eco – 51-52mins
These are the values displayed on the LCD screen of my 6month old device when taken off charge. These may fluctuate a little bit and may be higher on newer devices.
Who is the Dyson V11 for?
Everyone! Anybody who wants/likes to keep their house clean should seriously look at getting the Dyson V11 Torque.
Final Thoughts
The Dyson V11 Torque is a seriously good vacuum cleaner. If you can overlook the high price you really won’t be disappointed with its performance. To get so much power out of a cordless device, it’s enough to convince you to never have a corded vacuum cleaner again.
