The Hive Heating System comes in 3 parts; the thermostat, which is the main device you will interact with around your home; the hive hub, which provides the app connectivity and the receiver box, which does the actual controlling of your heating system. Now the hive heating system was already installed in my home when I moved in so I can’t comment on the installation but it goes without saying if you aren’t comfortable doing plumbing and electrics contact a professional. The receiver is wired to your boiler, and the thermostat connects wirelessly to the receiver. The Hive app guides you through the setup process.

The system can use geolocation to even turn the heating on when it recognises that you are nearly home.
Hive also has a ‘Ready By’ feature where it learns how long your home takes to heat up and makes sure that the heating turns on in sufficient time so that it reaches temperature for when you need it.
Hot water can also be controlled through the Hive heating system, so you never run out of hot water when you need it.

You can use voice commands to adjust the temperature, turn on the hot water, or even set up custom routines. I personally have never seen the benefit of this and I love smart home tech. For the smart home stuff to really get interesting for this system, you need to get their radiator valves. These enable you to control specific room radiator temperatures from the app. However, using Alexa to turn on the heating or adjust the temperature is just something I have never felt the need to do to date.

I personally don’t have the subscription as I don’t think the benefit justifies the cost of the subscription but if you do like to have all the stays available then it might be for you.
