The Xbox Series X has been on the market for over two years now, and it’s still one of the most powerful and feature-rich gaming consoles available. As an Xbox Series X owner, I’ve had the chance to spend a considerable amount of time with the console and its features. In this blog post, I’ll share my thoughts on the Xbox Series X after two years of ownership and whether it’s still worth the investment.
Pros
Cons
Still not got an Xbox Series X? They are easier to buy now than they were when first released. Check out stock on Amazon.
Design & Performance
The design has been a bit of a sticking point for the new generation consoles, dividing opinions on whether they look good or bad. The Xbox Series X has even been compared to a fridge(you may have seen the memes). Personally, I don’t think it looks that bad, granted it isn’t the sexiest piece of tech out there but I think it looks fine out on display on my desk.
It’s a bit larger than its predecessor, the Xbox One X, but it’s also more powerful. The console boasts a custom 8-core AMD Zen 2 processor, 16GB of GDDR6 RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. The result is lightning-fast load times, smooth gameplay, and stunning graphics.
Games & Backward Compatibility
The Xbox Series X is backward compatible with thousands of Xbox One, Xbox 360, and even original Xbox games. If you don’t own these you can access some of these old titles using Xbox Game Pass Ultimate but this comes at an additional cost.
Additionally, the console supports Smart Delivery, which means you can play the best version of a game, whether it’s on Xbox One or Xbox Series X. If you’re an Xbox Series X owner this allows you to make the most of your next-gen console. The Xbox Series X also has a growing library of exclusive games, including Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5, and Fable.
Features
One of the standout features of the Xbox Series X is its quick resume feature, which allows you to switch between multiple games seamlessly. The new NVMe SSD allows games to be loaded up almost instantly and back to the same position you left them in. If you’re the type of gamer who likes to flit between different games this feature will be a game changer for you. The console also supports 4K and HDR gaming, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X surround sound and 120fps gameplay. Additionally, the Xbox Series X has a robust ecosystem of apps, including Netflix, Disney+, Spotify, and more.
Verdict
After two years of ownership, I can confidently say that the Xbox Series X is still an excellent gaming console that’s worth the investment. The console’s design, performance, and features are all top-notch, and the backward compatibility and exclusive games make it a versatile and enjoyable platform for gamers. While the console is a bit pricey, it’s still an excellent value proposition when you consider its performance and features.
The main downside for me is the storage. Modern games take up a lot of memory space. The Xbox Series X comes with 1TB of storage, which sounds like a lot, but believe me, it fills up quickly. Popular titles like Call of Duty easily take up well over 100GB of storage, more than 1/10 of the total available so you can see how easily it can be filled. There are expansion cards available that increase the storage like this official Seagate one which I will link below.
Conclusion
If you’re a gamer looking for a powerful and feature-rich console that can handle the latest games and provide an immersive gaming experience, then the Xbox Series X is definitely worth considering. With its sleek design, lightning-fast load times, backward compatibility, and exclusive games, the Xbox Series X is a great investment that will provide you with hours of gaming entertainment.
